Remodel Pics Part II

More remodel pictures.  Finally.  If you missed pictures from the upstairs, you can click here.  I think we can all agree that photography is not my gift, so you'll just have to bear with me through the photo tour.

I took a bunch of pictures from different angles, just to try to give you a better idea of where you're at and what you're seeing.  It ends up making it more confusing...that's not unusual for me.

Let' start as you walk through the main door to the new part which is actually at the back of the house...

(Out that long window is a view of the side of the church, about 6 feet away :)

I did finally buy some barstools for the island, after much deliberation.  It ends up that the ones I really want are both expensive and impractical for four kids.  So I ended up buying the cheapest, most practical ones I could find...at a Farm and Fleet store, none-the-less.    They are currently waiting for me to paint them something fun so they can be less boring.  More pictures on those later.

This is the other side of the island.  I wanted all drawers because they are so easy to access and load full of stuff.  I love them.

There is a handy drawer for all the kids stuff...

And plenty of room for tons of flatwear, which makes it much easier when unloading the dishwasher!

Here's some random for ya...it's the cupboard under the stove-top and it houses all the pots and pans.  The shelves slide out, and I adore them.

And the garbage/recycling bins hidden away in a cupboard = dreamy.

The pantry cupboard.

This is the view looking into the old kitchen.  The old kitchen is waiting to get torn out.  The wood-laminate flooring will be carried into the old kitchen, once it is gutted and leveled out.   We aren't quite sure what we will make that room into, but I picture big comfy chair for reading...and bookshelves. :)

The chalkboard wall is a family favorite.  So fun.  Behind the chalkboard wall is the 1/2 bathroom.  And then the mudroom/laundry.

More random views, because I got carried away.  I bought the curtains at Target and just hemmed them so that when I let them down, they only go to the bottom of the window (instead of the floor)  They are super easy to tie and untie.

I ended up making the laundry room and window above the sink curtain from fabric that I ordered form fabric.com.  Super simple and super crooked means good. enough.

Having more wall space to be organized has been SO NICE.  I've been trying out various organizational methods.  It appears the main flaw in each of them is me.

This area has sort of become Lucy's.  It works for now.

We are so enjoying all the space.  And the break from construction. :)  There are a few projects left yet, like cement work for the outside steps, gutter stuff, tearing out of the old kitchen etc.  Eventually, the old part of the house will get new windows and siding as well.  It's a process.  And process is good because it creates a sense of thankfulness for completion.

Pictures of Remodel

I am one terrific procrastinator.  It's one of those things where I'm just good at it, ya know?  Like, I don't even have to try.  Lucky me.

After flipping through this blog, I realized why I keep getting emails about wanting to see pictures of the parsonage...I haven't posted any!

My bad.

So today I'll start the tour.  The remodel is done.  It has been for weeks.  Two weeks ago the carpet guys finally came, and now the bedroom switching extravaganza is complete.  Each kid has their own room now.  They like to celebrate this fact by opening and closing their bedroom doors approx 350 times per day.

Let's start upstairs...this is the view of the new addition as you come up the stairs.  Lucy's room is on the left, our room is straight ahead.

This (below pic) is the view standing in the new bedroom doorways, and looking into the old part of the house.

 Lucy's room:

Then our room, which is huge.  It swallows up our lack of furniture, but after living in a teeny-tiny little room, we're totally happy with the barren feeling.  This is the west side of the room, it will eventually house my sewing stuff (which is currently crammed into that little cream cabinet, along with my fabric;)...

Our bed is in the middle of the room, it's a Queen size, I promise...even though it looks like a twin here.  Ignore the laundry.

And this is the East side of the room.

And this is the view sitting on the bed.  Closet to the left, and then bathroom.

And now, for my favorite part of the whole addition...the closet.

And the master bath...which makes Ben and I remark ALL THE TIME that it feels like we live in a hotel room.  So very nice.

Ok, so now we're going back down stairs.  This is the view from our old dining room, looking through the old kitchen into the new addition.  The old kitchen used to look like this.

The old kitchen will get torn out sometime this Summer.  It's a big project, because the floor, being 100+ years old is very un-level.  So it will entail leveling the floor, and completely re-doing the ceiling and walls.  Side Note:  The flooring will be the same wood/laminate as in the new kitchen and we're not quite sure what will make this room into yet.  I'm picturing book shelves along where the cabinets currently are and some over stuffed chairs for reading.  Dreamy, no?

I'll catch ya up on the rest of the downstairs next time. I also have some thoughts on our gigantic parsonage...which I'm sure you're just dying to hear all about. *cough*

Happy Weekend Bloggy Friends!

They'll Call Me Back...

Sometimes life gets so full, that I don't know where to start.  And then I wander around aimlessly.

My blog has become that.  There's so much stuff to write about, that I end up not writing at all, because narrowing it down seems like too much work.

And then I miss the point.  I miss capturing the moments.  And that my friends, annoys me.  Greatly.

As I sit here, I keep thinking...just pick one thing, ONE thing, any thing and write. it. down.

Carpet Installers.

That's right.  Our upstairs is ready for the carpet to be laid, and I cannot get an installer to call me back and set a date.  For real.  I've called several.  And they are so nice on the phone, telling me how they can get to it "this week" and they'll call me back "right away" with a date...and then nothing.

The weird thing is, I really truly believe them every. single. time.  Did I mention how nice they are?  They've forced me into stalking them.  And I hate stalking by means of the phone.  If only they had facebook...

Anyways.

We're going on the 3rd week of this.  So this morning, I decided to have Ben call instead.  Maybe they'll like him better?  Maybe.  So Ben called the guy I spoke with yesterday, ya know, the one who would "call me right back."  And Ben explained who he was and the guy was shocked that his installer had not called us back.  He reassured Ben he would talk to him, and "call him back."

I chuckled when Ben told me what he had said.  "You believed him, didn't you."  Ben sheepishly smiled, and admitted he did.  Me too, my dear...me too.

Suckers.

I'm starting to think I could just do it myself.  I mean, I'm pretty handy with a staple gun, and if we never move the furniture around it should be good to go, right?  *cough*

Around Here...

The remodel project is coming along!

And upstairs...

...just little sneak peaks. :)  I promise a whole walk through once it's done.

Right now I should be painting...

Anyways.

My organization spree continues.  Again.

I started using a plain old planner from Target this fall.  Just to see if I would actually use it.  And I did *insert clapping for myself*

So, when I found a coupon for this planner that I've been dreaming about.  I jumped on it.

Thank you www.erincondren.com

The. Cutest. Planner. Ever.

On another note...

  • I went to vacuum out my van today, but then decided it was too windy.
I'd likely get a ticket for littering once I opened the van doors and the wind got a hold of all the garbage in there.  Now, instead, it can just blow out when I pick the boys up from school.  Nice.
  • Priming drywall is hard work.  And I am a wimp.
  • I stood in Target for several minutes trying to find the best deal on ground coffee (by the pound.)  Because lately, I've been a little picky.  And cheap.  I finally decided on one that was $7.99 (Archer Farms Caramel.)  Oddly, I didn't think twice about the almost $5 I paid for ONE grande iced caramel macchiato that I giddily bought from Starbucks on my way out Target's door.  At least I'm aware of my discrepancies.
  • Lucy thinks Curious George is a dog.
  • I watched The Bodyguard twice this weekend.  Once, on Lifetime, while there were ten hours of commercials...but I did get my whole ironing pile done.  Then last night, DVR'd, so I could skip commercials.  I have no shame.
Happy Monday!

Around Here...

While perusing the aisles of Target recently, I bought this laundry detergent based solely on the fact that I loved the box.  It's pretty.  It cost more than the stuff I usually buy.  It brings me cheer.

And it smells good.

I can't get enough of this Bible study by Beth Moore.  It has me reading commentaries.  And rubbing my temples because sometimes it makes my brain hurt.  In a good way.

I've been doing a little sewing.  Nothing fancy.  I made this little cushion for the rocking chair that Lucy got for Christmas.  She insists on not sitting on the cushion...she flips it up every time she sits down.

Baby Alive goes everywhere.. is everywhere.  Lucy loves her.  She is also always naked.  I'm not sure what Lucy has against her babies being clothed.

The Kindle Fire...it's dreamy.

I've been working on getting things organized around here.  Again.  The funny thing about organizing is that doing it once does not keep you organized.  Apparently it's an ongoing thing.  A Lifestyle.  Shocking, huh?

I prefer the organize then get messy then organize then get messy approach to life.  Right now, I'm in the organize phase.  Which is sort of ridiculous since I'm also in the remodel/addition phase of our home.

By the way, the downstairs of the addition got painted last week.  EEK!  But when I try to take pictures of it, well, let's just say it looks weird.  More on that later.

Messy faces...
 Thanks to pinterest.  Again.

I recovered the dining room chairs again.  This time I used a "laminated cotton" so it's wipe-able without being to plastic feeling.  So far, I love them.

This hangs on the fridge...bossing me around every day.

And that there is a whole lot of random.  As is our life.
