I'll give you a hint...she's from Norway. Oh yes she is!
Here's my take on it, a long drawn out version, because after all, I haven't blogged since last Thursday...I have words to use.
Anyways, let's go back to Friday. I finally bought the movie The Passion of the Christ. I know, I know, I'm like the 2nd to last Christian to have NOT seen it. I just didn't think I could handle it...watching and seeing them do that to Jesus, the person who means more to me than any other person just seemed like too much. But this year, I decided I was a big girl, so I bought it and sat down to watch it with Ben. I made it to scene 2, right after they decide to release Barabbas and I was already sobbing so hard I though I might barf...I told Ben I wasn't ready and went to bed.
Fast forward to Saturday night. I decide I'll give it another try. Maybe break it into sections. I started reading the back cover of the DVD case and the same ill feeling crept up my throat. Not ready yet...maybe next year.
So I decide to rent The Secret Life of Bees. Less traumatic. At 8:00 PM I hear my phone ringing from inside my purse and I also hear Jake yelling down from the bathroom that he needs help. I've ignored him before and paid the consequences, so I ran upstairs, figuring I'd call whoever it was back.
By the time I got downstairs again, I'd forgot about my phone so I started back into my movie. Then about 8:45 I heard my phone beeping at me that I had a new message.
The new message happened to be from the cutest Norwegian girl with the cutest accent EVER! (I should mention, that when she called, it was 8pm here and 3 am in Norway)
I came running in to tell Ben and we listened to the voicemail a few times. I listened to it myself a few hundred times ;) I could have KICKED MYSELF for not answering the phone! But it turns out, I kinda really like having that recorded message to listen to :) And I may or may not have let
No one tell Julie, she'll kill me ;)
Anyways, Easter Sunday morning I made my first international call ever. It was so fun to talk to her, even for a few minutes...to hear her voice. She is totally easy to understand, her accent is not thick at all, but simply adorable....and I mean "adorable" in a cool sophisticated teenagerish way, of course.
If there was a way for me to get that voicemail into my computer I would SO post it here for you guys because you would just love it. :) But it might also make Julie decide to live with another family... *wink*
Have I mentioned I cannot wait till she's here!
And now for your viewing pleasure *cough* Easter Pics...
Hunting eggs at G&G's.
I love the pics of the boys, they are sooo cute! Sorry we didn't get a chance to catch up!Sometime I'll just come to see you and I won't tell any of my family members I'm around!
ReplyDeleteLove your Easter pics!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the Passion either. We actually own it. Hubs has seen it a few times, but I wouldn't go with him to the movies to see it. Right after it came out onf DVD, he bought it for me so that when I was ready, I could watch it at home. (It's till wrapped in the plastic.)
I really WANT to watch it. I just can't bring myself to do it. Just watching a few youtube clips of it makes me bawl like a baby. Hmmmmmm.
Maybe one day.
Your boys are so handsome!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't tried to watch the Passion yet, even though I know we should. Surprisingly enough, I actually watched The Ten Commandments for the first time even though it's on television every year.
Sarah.... If I'd knew that you would play it of to everyone I would of sounded a little less like a scared meatbal, and more like an angel with a singing voice:)
ReplyDeleteLove you, Julie
Look at that gorgeous family!
ReplyDeleteYou look so good in blue!
You make me laugh at your joy over Julie!
BTW: I've never seen Passion. Won't. Can't. And I'm perfectly ok with that. I have it in my imagination, I don't need THAT brought to life for me.
My verif word. uglish
I'm with you on the movie and yet feel convicted about it, as in, "Shouldn't all [strong, good, serious] Christians watch this?" Someday, perhaps, but not yet. Glad you had a blessed Easter. I told Julie to call you, btw!
ReplyDeleteI went in the theatre and sobbed uncontrollably.....I would never watch it again.......I thought there was something wrong with me because I just could not stop crying loudly!
ReplyDeleteThe boys pictures are adorable, they are growing up so fast...sigh.
I don't know what your side of the family looks like...but I have to say that your middle child looks a LOT like Ben's family...in fact he looks like what I imagine Megan and Ethan's baby might look like, if they have a boy :)
ReplyDeleteYour boys are so cute!!
ReplyDeleteAnd about "The Passion", we've owned the DVD since the year they first came out and I still haven't watched it. I don't think I can or ever will. It's hard enough to hear about what Christ went through, let alone watch it!
Shortly after "The Passion" came out in the theatres, I was at a dinner at church, sitting at a table with many of the church leaders... We started discussing who had seen the movie and who would see it. I sat quiet, knowing I would probably never watch it. When one of the men at the table said, "I don't need to see it. I already read the book."
ReplyDeleteSilence at the table. I LOVED it!
I love that you got to talk to Julie. What fun. I hope time flies for you and BAM! she's here :)
ReplyDeleteThe Passion? Horrific to watch. Absolutely brutal.
ReplyDeleteJulie? Can't wait to meet her. She sounds like an absolute gem.
The Easter pics? Love them. Brothers. You captured it so perfectly.
love the pics of the boys. it goes by so quickly. love you in the blue too. ;)
ReplyDeletei'm with you on the movie. i went when it was at theaters with a group from church. i totally sat with drenched tissues sobbing through the entire movie. we bought the dvd, but i can't bring myself to watch it again... probably never will.
a very similiar situation happened to me when a certain friend called me from AFRICA! totally was kicking myself for missing the call. just so you don't feel alone... the hubby and i haven't seen the Passion either.
ReplyDeleteSomeday I will have to blog about my viewing of the movie with my 7th grade son....oh my!
ReplyDeleteanyway, love the pics and so glad you got to talk to Julie!! how fun!
your family is beautiful.
ReplyDeletedo you have skype?? it's a great way to go internationally & if you have a webcam you can see her :)
Your family is beautiful and I love reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you - I couldn't make it through The Passion either. I wanted to so badly, but I just couldn't do it.
Beautiful Easter pictures!!!!! So exciting that you got to talk to Julie on Easter! And I love your easter dress!!
ReplyDeletein HIM -
Mindy
Cute pics! I tried on that same exact dress at Target. That is where you got it, isn't it? If not, I tried on one just like it. That would have been weird.
ReplyDeleteYep, I outfitted everyone at Target...we're like a walking Target ad around here...they should pay me...
ReplyDeletePrecious pictures. You know...I had the opposite reaction to the Passion...it was too much for me as well and I just mentally checked out and sat in silence and watched but didn't watch...very strange experience.
ReplyDeleteTarget totally rocks! It requires nearly an hour drive to the big city, however, which I tell myself keeps me from taking it for granted, right? I mean, it wouldn't be near the luxury it is if I could go whenever I wanted?
ReplyDeleteYeah, right, whatever.
Your Easter pics are darling!
Ha! No, you cannot, absolutely cannot, ignore those calls of help from the bathroom!
ReplyDeleteEh, the Passion can be missed. It's traumatizing, really, and there's some stuff in there that was not biblical that just did not need to be there.
ReplyDeleteA bible movie that gets a HUGE thumbs up from me, though, is The Gospel of John. It literally goes word for word through the entire gospel and acts it out, but not in a cheesy fashion. I LOVE that movie, so much that I've watched it ten times or more! In fact, I just watched it a month or so ago, and I had my Bible open right along with it as I went. And I would pause the movie and make little comments over stuff in the Bible. My roommate thought I was weird... perhaps a bit nerd-ish... but I didn't care!
If you haven't seen it, you definitely should! :)
I love you got to talk to Julie. Our student from Japan was so much fun! I just know your gonna love this!
ReplyDeleteEaster pics look great! I agree - Target should pay you ;)
As for the Passion Of The Christ - Holy Cow does that movie make me cry. When I was in College I took a class - yes a entire semester - on the suffering of Jesus.
I thought I would be ready for the movie. Nothing can prepare us for a visual - Not of our Lord! The only cool thing is - after all that suffering with "us" on His mind - HE WON THE BATTLE!!!! Happy Late Easter! ;)
