My Crush is Over...So That's Good...

*My apologies before you even read this...it is allllll over the place*

Remember that inner 15 year old I've mentioned?

Well... she is reading the Twilight series. There's four books (I finished the 2nd yesterday) and a movie that opened this weekend. For those of you who may not know what on earth I'm talking about, the Twilight series is about teenage love...one of them is a vampire...it's young love without smutty stuff or gore, and frankly...I'm quite enjoying it!

Friday night my parents watched the boys so Ben and I could go to a movie. Twilight was sold out by the time we got there. Apparently, girls who are ACTUALLY 15 really wanna see the movie too. Go Figure. ;)

We ended up seeing the "old married people's movie" Fireproof *wink wink*

As I sat in the theatre, I wondered if I was the only 30 year old Pastor's wife in there (or anywhere) wishing she was watching Twilight instead...likely.

How weird am I?!?

Fireproof was a fine movie...with a lot of real life drama...which may have been the problem for me Friday night.

Lately, it seems that the opportunities to minister to people with real life dramas are endless...some of their life stories seem more fictional than a teenage vampire series could ever be. Friday night I was looking for an escape from that...a tiny two-hour distraction.

Fireproof was not that for me. BUT three things:
  1. ...I did realize that my teenage crush I had on young Kirk Cameron from Growing Pains...has ended even though he looks much the same. I know you're relieved.
  2. I thoroughly agree with the message of the movie. All married couples should see it. Bring Kleenex...and Jr. Mints.
  3. I didn't tell Ben about my crush until AFTER the movie...he acted surprised that I had had a crush on Kirk Cameron...I assured him that I wasn't the only woman in the theatre that had crushed on him a little back in the day ;)

*shaking my head and rolling my eyes* THAT is how I feel about this post :)

Happy Monday Bloggy Friends, and my sincerest thanks for putting up with this post ;)

  2. You crack me up. I have yet to read the Twilight series...but know I'll get sucked up in it once I thought...Hey, I just reread that and totally did not plan for that pun!! I too had a Kirk Cameron crush....it went out years ago though...it's hard to keep a teenage crush alive with someone who is adult and mature.

  3. I haven't read the books yet or seen the movie, but I'm sure I probably will at least see the movie. My 17 year old daughter has read all 4 of them and can't wait to see the movie. So I'll proably end up going with her and then who knows I may have to read the books too. Right now though I'm reading about 3 or 4 other books so they'll have to wait.

  4. I haven't read the Twilight series yet, but they are on my list. As for teenage crushes.....New Kids on the Block. I know, I know, I should be embarrassed.

  5. I am reading the first Twilight book. I love it so far! I also was supposed to go the the movie. Had my ticket and everything. There were nine of us MOMS who were going to the midnight showing. I got a migraine and couldn't join them. So, on Friday night Randy and I went to a movie and it was Fireproof! I liked it but found it sad that there are marriages that bad off. I didn't think the acting was all that great but once the storyline got rolling you don't notice. Oh, my 15 year old daughter saw Twilight Friday night and LOVED it!! She has some major crushes going on now. :-)

  6. I have yet to fall prey to the Twilight phenomenon... but I'm sure it's coming!

I do want to see Fireproof - I didn't know it was still playing. I've been over my KC crush for a while, but I still like him a whole lot!

  7. I do know what it's like to just want a break from being a minister's wife...which makes you a minister by default. (i dislike default sometimes)I get boggled sometimes at folks who are always "on", always ready and willing to minister to or talk to someone in need (which like you said is almost everyone, everywhere) and I think...I just don't have the energy for it cause its what our life is built around. I have yet figured out how to escape...tho I guess reading for the inner 15 year old sounds like a "novel" idea... ;) from on pw to another...

  8. Ummm... as the person partially responsible for your inner 15 year old picking up Twilight... i say, GO SEE THE MOVIE!

    I LOVED IT!

  12. We have to wait until Fireproof is on DVD way up here. Maybe not enough Canadians had a thing for K.C! Although I did. And I'm still trying to figure out why!

  13. AND Casting Crowns are on the soundtrack BONUS!!!! I would totally rather see Fireproof!!

  14. Ha, ha, I had a crush on Kirk Cameron too. I had a cut out photo taped to my door as a kid.

Ok, I must admit that you're not the only 30 something...cough, I mean twenty-seven year old that's reading the Twilight series. I'm almost at the end of the second.

  15. Totally wanting to see "Fireproof." I heard it was great and every married couple should see it.

Not understanding the whole "Twilight" thing. I mean, the boy's a vampire. Not gettin' it. Maybe I'll have to do a post about my non-understanding. And then get slammed by every reader I have. Sounds like fun to me.

  17. my neice went to twlight last night on one of her first dates.. she's 14... hehe!!

  18. I have put off reading the Twlight series because I'm afraid I'll get sucked in and then get NOTHING done around the house for a week straight. But if it's as good as everyone says, then I guess I'll have to...

  19. I'm almost afraid to try Twilight because I get way too attached to characters and storylines. If the series is as addictive as people say, there would be no hope for me to live a normal life while or after reading it.

Funny, I blogged about this just Friday.

I'd be interested to hear your take on the series after you've finished.

  20. I, like you, had that very same crush on Kirk Cameron. Up until I saw him in Left Behind.

We still have not seen Fireproof...but have heard that we need to.

Not really into the whole Twilight thing...but teenage daughter is begging me to let her read it. Watcha think?

  21. I had no idea what Twilight was until my kids started talking about it. They have not read the books and have no desire to see the movie. Guess they are on the strange side eh? Who would not want to read the books????

We have not seen Fireproof yet but would like to.

I went out to lunch with Kirk's sister, Candace went she came to our "big" city last year. She is really down to earth and is a sweety. She speaks highly of her brother - he is one of the reasons she became a believer!

    Hugs!

  22. OH man, I'm really bad. I had to google Twilight, I have never heard of it, and I saw Edward Cullen in the description. This whole time, up til just now, I thought Edward Cullen was a POLITICIAN of some sort. All I know is I saw a bunch of flair on facebook with Edward Cullen. Figured he was a politician. His name sounds real political and all...
and to top it off, I think I am the only married Christian woman who has not seen Fireproof yet. I think our theater is done showing it. I'll have to wait till it comes out on dvd I suppose.

  23. I never even knew what "Twilight" meant until Saturday afternoon. I had heard about it but assumed it was a music group! LOL boy was I wrong........It certainly has my curosity peaked.

  24. I couldn't figure out why everyone on Facebook was counting down to Twilight or what it even was. Now that I've read some reviews, I'm still concerned that people are so addicted and obsessed with is.

Fireproof is great. That is the kind of movies we need more of.

  25. I am addicted to the Twilight books, too. I'm on the fourth one in a weeks time - needless to say, reading is ALL I've been doing.
I don't want to see the movie, though.
Kirk Cameron was the cutest thing on TV!

  26. I'm just starting the 3rd book in the series and love it. I'm going to the movie on Wednesday!
I also had a crush on Kirk Cameron back in the day.

  27. Dan took Emma to Twilight (not knowing what is was about, and I didn't know either) and I ran into someone at the store while they were at the movie and they chuckled and said they didn't know Dan liked "vampire love stories" I laughed and laughed even harder when he got home - he was so suprised and rolled his eyes. He said he was the only "man" there!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!

  28. I've read the first one. I liked it. Then I saw the movie. I'll just let you go ahead and make your own judgments on it...but I hope we get to hear what you think when you see it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I blew through those books like there was no tomorrow! I'm not sure I want to be twice as old as everyone in the theater when I go see it though.

  30. David is reading the Kirk Cameron autobiography right now. He says it's really good.

I, too, had a major crush on Kirk Cameron when I was a young girl. I wrote him a fan letter professing my love, and when he didn't respond, I pretty much lost interest in him.

How COULD he not write me back?

    The nerve.

  31. I met Kirk Cameron once at a Christian Writers' Conference. He looked exactly the same in person as he did when he was 15! It was funny.

I gave you an award over on my blog this morning. Check it out!

  32. My 20 year old daughter and several nieces talked me into reading the twilight series. i read the whole series in ONE week. (I am ...ok... 39). I loved the books. The day after the movie opened my girls and I went to see the movie. Honestly I didn't want to see it. Every book I have loved that has been made into a movie has been ruined... but I was surprised. it wasn't THAT bad. I was not impressed with the acting of the girl that played bella... but other than that.. not too bad.
