Eat, Sleep & Be Merry...

I have to admit...I sometimes like Thanksgiving Day better than Christmas Day.

Don't get me wrong, I love the meaning behind Christmas...I'm just talking about the actual day.

Thanksgiving Day is full of family, yummy food and laziness. I heart that.

Christmas Day...so fun...and SO crazy. We go from our house, to my parents, to my aunts, to Ben's family...in one day. And at each stop, our little van becomes more and more loaded down with gifts...and more gifts. It's fun, it really is but I so enjoy the fact that Thanksgiving is void of presents.

After Thanksgiving, we just come home in a semi-comatose state with our pants a little too tight...I'm wearing leggings this year though...problem solved.

To the Pilgrims and Indians and whoever else...I sincerely thank you for Thanksgiving.

Here's my First Graders Thanksgiving book report. Pretty much sums it up for America.

Enjoy.

  1. I love the report! We are looking forward to having EVERY person in my mom's family all together Thanksgiving day! (38 people) That doesn't happen often.

  3. That is SO cute! Do turkeys fly?
Remember the Friends episode of Joey in his thanksgiving pants and it turned out they were Phoebe's maternity pants! SO funny.
    So can turkeys fly?
Really, it's going to bug me all day.

  7. Laughing out loud about your leggings comment. You see, just yesterday at Weight Watchers, we were strategizing how to enjoy Thanksgiving sensibly (so we don't gain back 5 pounds in one day - lol) and one person suggested "wearing our skinny pants." We all thought that was a great idea! = ) I personally don't plan to count points on Thanksgiving, but probably will wear my skinny pants, lest I be overly tempted to go hog wild. (Oh to be young and skinny again!)

I loved Noah's adorable report and I'm with you...Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the entire year.

    Blessings,
    Tracy

  8. I too love Thanksgiving...but truth be told, Christmas at our house is actually more laid back. At Thanksgiving, we've got the big meal and the fine china... which I love doing b/c Thanksgiving is about the meal. (in addition of course to thanking God and spending time with family) but the main event is the meal. It is also a lot of cooking and cleaning. Come Christmas, we have everyone over to watch the kids open presents, we eat a laid back, easy brunch... cin rolls, fruit, whatever keep it simple b/c I am not in the kitchen on Christmas... even use paper plates so there is no clean up. I want to just enjoy the day with my kids... then everyone leaves, we nap and we wake up and have a birthday party for Jesus and frozen pizza for dinner... just the 5 of us. That's how it's been the last few years anyway and as long as I can keep it up I will. I LOVE it!

  15. I'm with you girl - we only go to one house on Thanksgiving and Christmas. But I love the fact that we are simply enjoying the day of food and fellowship with family and an Uncle Eddie (or two).

    Hugs!

  17. Awesome report and with a turkey sticker to boot.

Good advice on the leggings. Think I'll wear the most unfitted dress I own.

  18. wow thats an amazing book report for a 1st grader. I don't think my first grader could do that just yet, shoot they haven't even had a book report yet. I am speechless. How many kids in your sons class? Just curious. My son has 32. Hate it too!

  19. I so agree with your perspective on comparing these two days. Except this year, we won't be going from place to place like we usually do. It will be much more relaxing. But I'll miss everyone! I'm really impressed with your first grader's handwriting and spelling! Very nice! And his message was right on :)

  23. You had me at the first sentence.

The older I get, the more I look forward to Thanksgiving -- and the less I look forward to Christmas. And we don't even have a lot of family in the area to visit. I just get annoyed with all the STUFF that Christmas requires. It's such a production these days. Bah. Humbug.

  24. I totally agree with your whole synapsis of what happens on Christmas. Its like that in my family too. Thanksgiving is much calmer! I loved the blog about Eli repeling and had to think of how he had three onlookers, but then remembered that Cameron could have easily been pursuaded to try next time! He forgets all of these fun stories by the time I see him! Sarah A
