I heart politics. I do. But I do not like debating about it.
My minds made up. Morally, ethically, socially, economically, I fall on a certain side...BUT, do I think my party is "the answer"...absolutely not.
I think both parties fail...miserably. I pick one, I pick a side because it's America, it's how it works.
I think there is one answer. And he is Jesus.
Makes me think of a song :)
My favorite part (I've highlighted in the fab color of orange) is a spoken part of the song..and it is RIGHT ON.
You can listen here. Enjoy.
Lyrics:
What this world needs
Is not another one hit wonder with an axe to grind,
Another two bit politician peddlin` lies,Another three ring circus society.
What this world needs Is not another sign wavin` super saint that's better than you,
Another ear pleasin` candy man afraid of the truth,
Another prophet in an Armani suit.
What this world needs
Is a Savior who will rescue,
A Spirit who will lead,
A Father who will love them in their time of need.
A Savior who will rescue,
A Spirit who will lead,
A Father who will love,
That's what this world needs.
What this world needs
Is for us to care more about the inside than the outside.
Have we become so blind that we can't see?
God's gotta change her heart before He changes her shirt.
What this world needs
Is for us to stop hiding behind our relevance.
Blendin` in so well that people can't see the difference
And it's the difference that sets the world free.
What this world needs
Is a Savior who will rescue,
A Spirit who will lead,
A Father who will love them in their time of need.
That's what this world needs.
(Spoken)
People aren't confused by the gospel,
They're confused by us.
Jesus is the only way to God,
But we are not the only way to Jesus.
This world doesn't need
My tie, my hoodie,
My denomination, or my translation of the Bible,
They just need Jesus.
We can be passionate about what we believe,
But we can't strap ourselves to the gospel.
Because we're slowing it down
Jesus is going to save the world,
But maybe the best thing we can do
Is just get out of the way.
I, too, heart politics. it's so hard for me to not post about it every day. I would if I could. I mean, sometimes, I get really mad ... really mad with the press and media. Let's not go there.
ReplyDeleteI heard those same thoughts yesterday on K-LOVE...
ReplyDeletedefinitely sooo true!!
Great, great, lyrics. I completely agree.
ReplyDeleteI just heard the song "Slow Fade" by CC this morning and watched the video on youtube. Wow. What a powerful song.
Awesome post, you summed it up perfectly!
ReplyDeleteGod's gotta change her heart before He changes her shirt.
ReplyDeleteI heart that. That "her" was me a time ago.
And once again - you sum up what is in MY head with a great post! :) Such true words, and I love that song!
ReplyDeleteRight on Sista!!!
ReplyDeleteThe spoken part of that song is my favorite too. It's like, yeah, you hear the message of the song, but "snap out of the flow of the musical flow and hear this, GET OUT OF THE WAY! I'M TALKING TO YOU!"
ReplyDeleteThanks for that beautiful reminder. All we truly need is Jesus. How easy that is to forget sometimes.
ReplyDeleteGood stuff Sarah.
ReplyDeleteHave you read Jesus for President by Shane Claiborne? I have read some of his stuff and been wanting to..
heavens to betsy girl everytime you quote "my" Crowns I get goosebumps--we should take a road trip to no where and sing Crowns songs at the top of out lungs!!! OVER AND OVER AND OVER they speak to me every single time!!! Love, your sister in "Crownhood"
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about this very same thing a lot lately.
ReplyDeleteWe don't need a politician. We need a Savior. We need THE Savior.
Thanks, Lady. :-)
Pretty accurate. The Democratic Party is just as lost as the GOP. You are right. In many elections it comes down to a "lesser of two evil's." While one party does place more respect and value on God's View of LIFE and morality, imagine the "analyzing" of these candidates if they dropped the "moral good talk" and started advocating The Gospel of Salvation!?!?!
ReplyDeletebtw. . . I heartheartheartheartheart politics too!
